Have you ever wondered why brides wore white gowns in weddings? Out of my curiosity, I did a quick check and this was what i found. The white wedding dresses you see nowadays were not what the brides wore long time ago.

During the Middle Ages, most weddings were performed due to political reasons rather than love. It does not only involve two individuals but it can be between two families, businesses or even countries. Brides were expected to dress to reflect their social status. The material and color of the gown depends on how wealthy the family is. Luxury materials like fur, silk and velvet are popular among the rich.

On the other hand, the poorer brides wore only their best church dress for their wedding. White is said to represent pureness these days but during the ancient time, blue was use to symbolize purity. The white wedding dresses were not one of the favourite choices during that time.

The trend was started by Queen Victoria who got married to Albert of Saxe-Coburg. Victoria wore a white lace gown for her wedding. When the photos got published, many brides opted for similar dresses to honor the Queen.

The tradition continued till today, as the color white was assumed to represent virginity, although that was not the original intention.

The other day when I was at the beach, on my trip in Port Dickson, I saw a couple taking wedding photographs. The couple were standing in the ankle deep water, posing with some guidance from the photographer, for the camera. I certainly think that it is a very beautiful sight.

Having your shots taken at the scenery or destination itself is much better than taking with a backdrop behind. Dont you think so? To me, using a backdrop is not “real”. Places like the beach, park and hills are inexpensive and the results are beautiful!

If you do not want the bridal studios to charge you so much for outdoor photography, try exploiting your own photographer. It can be someone you know, may it be your sister, brother or friends with great photography skills. I am sure they will charge cheaper or maybe some wont even charge! But it is always better to repay in some way if they would not accept money.

Well if you can afford, you can also fly off to elsewhere with your photographer and groom of course! You can opt for nearer places like Bali or Thailand, or further and more costly places like Europe, Japan or Taiwan. They have places that makes awesome background!

All in all, its entirely up to you. I will not choose fake backdrops over real sceneries unless i really really have to! What about you? Feel free to leave your comments or experience!

Wedding photographs is one of the eternal ways to keep wedding memories. Some are gorgeously taken while some are just average. Everyone wants to have their own wonderful wedding album. Some may think that owning an album full of beautiful pictures cost a bomb. Actually, one of the most important aspects to pay attention to is the background and a little photography skills. These are the few well-loved spots for stunning wedding photography.

Beaches

The beach is a wonderful place for photography. One can play with the natural lighting such as the sunrise and also the sunset. It depends entirely on the effect one wants to create. The sea breeze bestows a beautiful impact on pictures.

Hills and Gardens

Hills are great places to be photographed at with the wedding dress on. The picture is even better if the hills are grassy. The wind will add a breezy and comfortable feeling to your portrait, making it very natural and lively.

Tourist spots

Tourist destinations are famous with photographers too. It captures the lovely couple and at the same time, also publicizing the location. Some tourist places are picked because of cultural reasons. For example, a famous temple in Penang may be selected as a wedding photography background because the couple is of Chinese hereditary.

Hotels, Villas and Chalets

Some holiday accommodation has gorgeous surroundings or landscapes to be featured as the main wedding photography architecture. Magnificent stairways, grand pianos, spellbinding water features and many other highlights make great backdrops.

Finding the right bridal studio is tough but not impossible. This is due to the ever rising number of bridal houses everywhere especially in hotspots such as Petaling Jaya’s SS2, Kuala Lumpur’s Jalan Loke Yew and Jalan Ipoh. The Bridal Studio will be a huge contributing factor to your whole wedding event. So how does one assure that the big day wouldn’t be ruined by some unprofessional bridal studio?

Budget

Decide your budget or have a rough idea of what you are willing to pay or can afford before you go into any bridal houses. If you are not prepared, you may end up paying much more than you bargained for. Do some research to avoid spending unnecessary money.

Explore

If you have the time, try not to sign a package at the first studio you enter. Go to bridal streets where many Bridal Studios are lined up there. You can enter one shop after another to select the best one. But of course, you must be serious in looking and wanting the best, not merely wasting the poor sales assistant’s time. This studio might offer better promotions than the one before, or even the one after, therefore ask around before you decide. Choose wisely!

Survey

Ask to take a look at the wedding or evening gowns when you are surveying around. Some bridal shops are kind enough to let you try some on without any charges to see how it fits you. Look at their designs and sizes to see whether they are to your liking and can be altered. Also see whether there are additional charges for brand new gowns.

Observe

The most important person dealing with you is the sales assistant from the bridal studio. Therefore, observing the sales assistant is also a must do. Some sales assistant are so friendly and courteous till it intimidates the customers. Certain people places profit as their first priority hence neglecting what is best for you and your groom.

A great sales assistant will place your needs and wants ahead of anything else and treat you with honesty. She has to have some knowledge of what suits you and your body shape instead of just saying yes to everything you tried on.

The most important point here is that you must be able to communicate with the sales assistant. Observe the salesperson before you decide.

View

Ask for the photos of previous wedding albums to see their photography skills. See whether you would be able to choose photographers and make-up artist based on their work. If you have decided to choose that bridal studio, seek to meet its photographer beforehand and ask if you are not happy with him or her, will you be able to change to another person. A photographer has to make the couple feel at ease and happy to capture the moment.

Your partner may be someone who doesn’t like to express him or herself, therefore making it hard for you to know what he or she is thinking. Sometimes it can be really frustrating because you don’t know what have you done wrong or what he or she wants.

The most important key here is to make your spouse loosen and open up. It can be really difficult for them to do so as they have always been like this since young. Sharing your feelings is not an easy task thus it is even tougher for a passive person.

First of all, you will have to verify the symptoms. Is he or she passive person? Saying that “I am fine” when things are clearly not is a very obvious sign. These people are trying to avoid talking about the problem hence bottling up the anger. Another sign is when the conversation between the two of you has reduced. She or he seems angrily quiet and disturbed. They tend to hide in bathrooms, kitchen or anywhere they can find to be alone. This is the time where they shed silent tears.

Let your partner know how this makes you feel. Tell him or her that it bothers and hurt you very much that he or she is not sharing what they have in mind but on the other hand, you told them everything. They should be able to understand you but do not be too pushy. Forcing them too much will only make them feel more reclusive.

Ask your partner to be fair and communicate with you. Break it to them gently and make them realize that if they don’t discuss what they have in mind, you will never know.

After you manage to persuade your spouse to open up, try your best to understand and give in if you think that the issue is not worth arguing about. Do not reject or turn them away every time they try to talk. If you do this, the next time you want them to unwind, the chances of you succeeding is like climbing up the tree in heels.

Getting pregnant is a gift. Therefore one should put more effort to take extra care during pregnancy, especially if it is the first child. There are many precautions and laws one has to adhere to during this period. Some may be some general safety measures, while others may be different according to one religion and superstitious belief. Though each creed may differ, there are common foods which a pregnant woman should not consume.

Raw eggs, meat and seafood

Some salad dressings, homemade ice cream, mayonnaise and dishes are made using raw eggs. Raw food contains a type of bacteria called the salmonella. It causes food poisoning. Though it is unlikely to harm your baby, diarrhea would definitely wear you down. Only eat eggs, meat and seafood when they are fully cooked.

Processed meat

Process food especially those meaty ones such as sausages, burgers and canned luncheon meat can be really harmful to your baby. It might be contaminated with listeria, a kind of flu-like illness that can cause miscarriage or stillbirth.

Certain fishes

Though fish are filled with nutrients, some are best eaten less or not eat at all. Oily fish are good but a pregnant woman should not consume too much. Fish that are oily might contain pollutants such as dioxins and polychlorinated biphenyls (PCBs). Sardines, Trout, Fresh Tuna (canned not included) and Mackerel are some examples of oily fish.

There are some fish which one should avoid altogether such as shark, swordfish, raw shellfish and marlin. These fish contain a high level of mercury which can damage the baby’s nervous system development. During pregnancy, limit your fish intake to no more than two servings per week.

Alcohol and smoking

Alcohol and smoking brings more harm than good especially towards pregnant woman. Heavy drinking and the smoke can affect the baby in many ways. Most of the baby deformation or problematic cases happened because of these reasons.

Caffeine

Caffeine affects the absorbency of iron in your daily meals, which is an important nutrient during pregnancy. High level of caffeine can result a premature baby or miscarriage. Caffeine exists usually in coffee, tea and chocolate. Even soft drinks and energy drinks can contain caffeine. Check the label before you consume. Do not take more than 200mg of caffeine a day.

The cake is an important character in a wedding. That is because the cake cutting ceremony is part of the whole process. Your wedding cake will also be featured in your photographs for memories therefore it should leave an everlasting impression. Here are some things you have to pay attention to when choosing a cake.

Size of the cake

The size of the cake will definitely depend on the size of the crowd. The more people attending your ceremony, the bigger the cake will be. You would have to make sure that the cake is big enough for everyone to have at least one piece. If you want to save some for those who are not attending, prepare a much bigger cake!

Design

The design of the cake is entirely up to the both of you. It can be made to match the theme of your wedding or it can be the conventional one. Look through pictures of different cakes from different bakeries and confectioneries to get a rough idea of what you want. It can be a three layer pink and white cake with you and your partner’s figurine as the topper.

Flavor

While it is important for the cake to look good, it is also vital for it to taste good. Try to get recommendations from family and friends whom had great success with their wedding cakes previously. Sampling the flavor before deciding can help a great deal. It could reduce the reason of worrying how it will taste like. If you could not decide on what flavor you want your cake to be, you can have all the tiers in various flavors.

Please take the effort to place your order earlier to avoid disappointment in any way. Bakeries usually require you to arrange at least a few months in advance.
