The Romance in Fate Bridal Fair 2010- Where Love Sparkles

  • March 10, 2010 at 5:06 PM

Despite superstitions regarding the year of the Tiger, wedding related events are, most of them, unaffected by the hype. For the Midvalley Megaamll, their Exhibition Hall (MVEC) is once again teeming with life at their most recent wedding-related event—The Romance in Fate Bridal Fair 2010. The bridal fair was held on the 5th till the 7th of March 2010, from 10am to 9pm at hall 2 and Hall 3 of MVEC.

For visitors who’d entered the doorway, they’d be awestruck right away by the decorations and décor exhibits—dangling crystal drops from over the archway, with rows of like-themed bridal gowns complementing the designs (and welcoming every visitor towards the hall), and not to mention, a Mercedes-Benz C-230 Avantgarde in bridal décor, just off the entrance.

While the décor is quite mesmerizing, the main attraction for the event is the list of events for visitors’ and buyers’ participation.Buyers who have brought either their magazines (Feminine, My Wedding etc) will stand a chance to win goodie bags worth up to RM70, and there are a few lucky draws with a wide variety of prizes, held by sponsoring companies done during Sunday. Nanyang Siang Pau’s Romance Wedding Awards Ceremony is another highlight for the event.

Of course, the bridal fashion show isn’t to be missed, being another major crowd-puller. Saturday had White Elite and their lead designer wow-ing the crowd with their latest bridal dress designs, which included the hip-&-trendy bridal mini dress, complete with masquerade-esque styling and accessories. Others include Dominique Chan’s Pret-A-Porter 2010 Collection and Albert King & Leeren Bridal during the opening.

Choices and entertaining activities aside, the bridal fair is also quite a knowledge-enhancing experience, as visitors get to attend to various talks and seminars by experts, in regards to wedding customs, beauty-care and make-up plus styling, all free of charge.

All in all, the Romance in Fate Bridal Fair 2010 is one stunning, sparkling romantic event in all its sparkling glory.

Chap Goh Meh

  • March 2, 2010 at 11:55 AM

In general, Chap Goh Meh is the Hokkien pronunciation for 十五暝; the last day of the 15-days-long Chinese New Year celebration. The occasion is also known as the Lantern Festival or 元宵节 (Yuan Xiao Jie) in Chinese. It should not be confused with the Mid-Autumn Festival (The Moon Festival), which is also sometimes referred to as ‘Lantern Festival’ in Malaysia and Singapore.

For this festive occasion, it is marked by feasting and various festivities, with Tang Yuan (glutinous rice ball in sweet soup) as one of the main delicacies. Lighting lanterns, firecrackers and fireworks are also some of the popular activities during the celebration.

However, for Southeast Asian Chinese, this day is also known as the Chinese Valentine’s Day, where, traditionally, matchmaking will be held for single unmarried persons (usually girls) looking for potential suitors, and the popular ‘Mandarin Orange-Throwing’ custom will be held.

A Southeast Asian Custom

According to various sources, the custom took its roots in the Southeast Asian Chinese culture, starting from Penang. It is a custom for unmarried girls to find a potential suitor; as well as being the only time where the girls can be seen with their partners.

The custom is practiced during the night of Chap Goh Meh, usually near rivers or lakes. The girls will gather at the bridge, or lakeside, with mandarin oranges in hands, all written with their names. As for the boys, they will either be waiting in boats in the river or lake, or by the banks, ready to grab for the oranges that will be thrown into the waters. For married couples, some will light a candle boat and let it float into the river. It is said that the longer the boat floats, the longer the relationship will last.

While the custom now is not so much on looking for potential suitors or spouses, it is still celebrated as a fun-filled event for all, especially young people eager to meet new friends. For the girls, some even included their cell phone number or emails; thought it might be risky if the wrong person found it. All in all, it has become a get-together event for families and friends alike, where sometimes even DJs and hosts are invited to organize and host programs and various activities (e.g. guessing word puzzles, lantern-making) to spice up the event.

Chap Goh Meh is not the most ideal occasion, when one talk about romance and love, but, it is definitely the best occasion for gathering around, or rekindling passionate love for couples, and a chance to meet new friends, or perhaps, find the ‘Right’ person.

Happy Chinese New Year!

The Colors of Auspiciousness and Romance

  • February 4, 2010 at 11:39 AM

Red is the color of passion and love, as well as auspiciousness in the Chinese culture. Coincidently, Valentine’s Day for this year falls on the same day as the Lunar Chinese New Year. Thus, red is the most suitable color for the 6th Malaysian International Wedding & Beauty Exhibition, which is being held in the same month as both celebrations.

With a Touch of Auspiciousness

This time around, seeing that Chinese New Year and Valentine’s Day are the upcoming events, we get to see displays of Chinese-themed gowns (cheongsam, embroidery etc) and bridal gowns with rose and floral motives (roses being the most popular flower during Valentine’s Day). Most of the banquet settings, especially those by Chinese banquet restaurants had incorporated classic Chinese themes into their designs and the menu, as seen at the participants along the Hotel & Restaurant Avenue. The long stretch of the avenue finally ends with HYT Travels, with various attractive New Year and honeymoon package rates all on display.

Fabulous Bridal Fashion Showcase

Banquets aside, the bridal fashion show is another main attraction, with Mon Liza Wedding Castle, and all time favorite Ivory Romance dishing out their best. Mon Liza’s show on Saturday was a colorful display of Victorian-style bridal gowns and evening ball gowns, complete with lace, flowers and ruffles; as well as classic cheongsam with dashes of glimmer and delicate embroidery; all in the brightest colors of spring; thus named its theme as the return of spring—a fresh start to all life forms.

Ivory Romance, on their Sunday show, gave us a brilliant performance as well. For the show, they’d invited celebrities Nasha Aziz and Peter Davis as guest models, along with Rhythm and Hits as the accompanying dance troupe. The range of their gowns on display varied, from conventional white gowns to cheongsams with a contemporary twist in designs and texture, plus shimmering figure-hugging dresses. However, the most eye-catching of the series are the red & black evening gowns and matching all-black glittering groom’s suit, which exude an air of darkness, mysterious and elegance.

Activities and Events

While the bridal fashion show remains the spotlight, other activities added more excitement to the overall event. Shills Beauty offered a live demonstration of their slimming patch and various other beauty products while giving out free gifts to the participants of the live demo, including a swan-shaped Swarovski crystal pendant.

During intermissions, Regal Orchestra presented the audience with a wide range of musical performances by a few live bands under their banner—the Chinese orchestra quartet with their classic Chinese love-songs as well as interesting Eastern-Western mix; the strings and keyboard trio of Hikaru with their all time English favorites; and a contemporary live band belting out popular hits and nostalgic oldies.

At the end of the day, most waited by all, is the Grand Lucky Draw Contest. Starting at 8:30pm, the contest will see 17 consolation prizes worth up to RM4000 and more, plus three top winning prizes, along with free album case, awarded to the lucky couple. Of course, the lucky couple, upon receiving their price, will be asked to complete a ‘task’ set by the host, such as singing a love song to his/her spouse, while the crowd cheered on for the couple. Wedding.com.my, the official website of the event, had been invited as the guest of honor to draw the winner’s name and present them their prizes.

The Conclusion

All in all, it was definitely three fun-filled days for all visitors, and three busy days for all the participants. We certainly need to express our gratitude to The Concept Exhibition, for all their effort and creativity, in bringing us this successful event with all its interesting programs and activities.

However, this will not be the only activity that will be for year 2010, as The Concept will be presenting us with more events for the months to come, including the 1st Malaysian Baby Children and Parent Expo in the late quarter of 2010.

Love Forecasts for the Star Signs- 2010

  • January 29, 2010 at 11:25 AM

Curious about how you and your partner’s outlook will be (as a pair) in this brand new year 2010? Well, Wedding.com.my has found some general predictions in romance for each and every star sign, starting with the first half of Aries till Virgo.

Aries

With the arrival of Saturn in the sector of partnership, there will be significant tests to your relationship for the playful Aries. A commitment or marriage might start to feel like a burden, or become boring. However, if you could work through this cycle of stiffness with your partner, you will be rewarded with a strengthened bond and deeper understanding, plus passion! An extra note, Jupiter and Uranus will give you a boost throughout the year!

Taurus

You may encounter some frustration in love and relationship, as you may not be able to get what you want. However, with Venus, your ruling planet, will be retrograde in your house of partnership in October, this will be the most suitable time for you to wrap up any loose ends in the past with your partner. If you could, there is a chance and time for healing; if not, it is time for you to move on.

Gemini

This is the time for you to take a clear-headed look into your love life, especially when Saturn, along with its restrictions, will be staying in your house of love and romance for the time being. However, you will also have the chance to explore greater depths of commitment in your relationship. Plainly, it will be hard work this 2010, and expect to lend a hand to your incapacitated partner.

Cancer

As one whom treasures emotional security, this year, however, will bring about changes in the dynamics of your individuality and your role in the relationship. Both the Solar Eclipse and the Lunar Eclipse will fall upon your house of partnership; one predicting joy and love, the other of separation. It will indicate a new beginning, or new changes to the existing relationship, all depending on your personal chart.

Leo

Mars, the planet of sex and energy, will be retrograde in your sign, and wouldn’t turn your direction until later half of the year. Thus, you might experience a dip in your usual sexual performance, or lack of interest in it. However, Jupiter, the planet of Luck, will be in your 8th house of intimacy for most of the year; means you and your partner will get to venture out of your comfort zones when it come to exploring sex.

Virgo

Exciting developments in your love life is obvious this year, thanks to a confluence of rare planetary alignments that will come at you from every which way. With Jupiter in your stars, it further means a good partnership for the start—good news if you plan to tie the knot this year. While it is OK to strive for the perfect union, over-cautious may see a good opportunity flying by.

Libra

Libra is a sign known for compromise and balancing, but this year, circumstances may force you to ask: ‘What about me?’ With Uranus in your house, you will experience a stronger urge to express your individuality in your relationship. Also, with Jupiter’s luck on your side,  your relationship might be heading for newer improved directions.

Scorpio

Year 2010 will be a trip down memory lane with your partner, as you rediscover the all the little thing s that had brought you two together. Though you may be feeling doubts and anxiety about loving and satisfying your partner, as Venus will turn retrograde during the later half of the year; take this as the opportunity to try something new sexually with your loved one. Something mysterious and exciting.

Sagittarius

The playful, sunny one among the Star Signs, things will be relatively low-key for you this year. While it may sound boring, small trips here and there might just quench your boredom. But July onwards promises a delicious period with Venus, the planet of Love, and Mars, the planet of sex, will be in your house and blessing your union in amazing ways.

Capricorn

The start of the year may not be the start some anticipated. With the Eclipse in your sign, closely conjunct Venus, you will feel more inclined to look at yourself first; and initiate the end of a relationship that has arrested your own development. However, the solar eclipse on July might hint at the beginning of a new partnership.

Aquarius

With Mars, the planet of sex and energy, being the dominant influence in your relationship throughout the year, this might hint at a fight with your partner, or fighting for your love. If it is the former, a visit to the marriage counselor might help you sort out your issues. If your love is to survive, there will be a compromise that you both need to meet.

Pisces

After a straining stressful year in 2009, you’ll finally feel as if you’ve ‘found yourself’, and with a relief, now that Saturn has finally left your house. After the stress and strain is gone, it is time for you and your partner to start mending the seams. If your relationship has survived 2009’s year of tests, then it will definitely emerge stronger this year!

Do note that all the forecasts above are only reference, and accuracy is not guaranteed.

  • January 8, 2010 at 9:53 AM

  • December 30, 2009 at 6:08 PM

JW Marriott Hotel Kuala Lumpur

Palace Of The Golden Horses

Pan Pacific Hotel K.L.I.A

The Club at the Saujana

Putrajaya Shangri – La    (草坪)

Palace Of The Golden Horses(泳池)

KL Hilton(草坪)

The Westin Kuala Lumpur

Pacific Regency Hotel Suites

Le Meridien Kuala Lumpur

Hotel Equatorial Bangi-Putrajaya

Sheraton Imperial Kuala Lumpur

The Gardens Hotel & Residences

Extraordinary Wedding Themes- a Vampire Wedding

  • December 17, 2009 at 6:03 PM

Want something out-of-the-ordinary for your wedding? In this modern new age, superstition and taboos are no longer strictly adhered to, especially by younger generations. Wedding.com.my has found some rather interesting wedding themes which couples in other countries have tried, with great success.

The Vampire-themed Wedding

The debut of the Twilight Saga has probably reignited the wave of obsession with vampires and werewolves as millions of fans worldwide cheered for their favorite characters on the silver screen. So, if you and your spouse happen to be fans of the series, a vampire-themed wedding might just be the one for you!

How to get prepared

This is one theme where time period is not a must. You can choose from any style: Victorian, Gothic, ghostly, or, like the Twilight series itself—modern chic with a hint of darkness.

Attire

Depends on your overall theme—a ball gown dress for a Victorian era theme; a figure-hugging fishtail dress for a more contemporary look; or a chiffon Grecian robe for an ethereal, ghostly feel. Black, or any dark colors (deep purple, dark blue) with highlights in bold red should match the theme perfect. If you’ve just went to the recent November wedding fair, you might noticed a few QiPao (cheongsam) that fits the color palette and theme.

The groom might also want to choose a suit that matches the bride’s gown or dress—a frock coat for the Victorian style; a smart tux to go with the bride’s chic contemporary look. Or, if you both are fanatic fans of Twilight, get the exact suit and dress that Edward and Bella donned for their wedding !(though custom-made ones might require a budget on tailoring).

Food and Beverage

While most weddings will serve champagne, substitute yours with red wine and red sparkling juice (for guest who do not want alcoholic drinks). Stylish goblets (like those used in the Twilight movie) can be prepared specially for the bridal couple and the bride’s and groom’s parents.

For the food, add a touch of red or crimson—red-colored dipping or sauces (strawberry syrup to go with desserts, chilli/tomato sauce etc), or you may ask the restaurant/caterer for the menu to see which food you can mix and match to suit the theme. Rename your menu items with creative names also add to the mood.

And have fun with your wedding cake design!

Venue decoration

Starting with the floral arrangements, red roses are the easiest to get, or you may try other variety of red flowers: Amaryllis (for large blossoms), Heliconia, Tulips etc. Dark green foliage will go well with the red blossoms.

Decorative items (table cloths etc) in shades of red and black (velvet or dark purple will do if black is not available/ not an option) should set the mood. If you wish to, you may even have candle holders for each table—brass ones for the classic look; stylized ones for the more contemporary Twilight look. If you wish for quirky funny, Jack-o-lanterns might be an option!

Entertainment

For the playlist music, there is a wide range of soundtracks available—classic baroque instrumental, theme songs of your favorite vampire movies, or get that Twilight soundtrack CD!

A live band or a DJ is fine for live entertainment, though be sure to tell them in advance regarding the type of songs you want them to play, and their costumes. Or, for a more special, befitting one, get a magician to perform magic tricks on the spot. That should add a mystical touch to the overall events.

All in all, this will be a chance for you to work your creative mind and have fun, as there are unlimited ideas for this theme. For more conservative couples (particularly the parents or elders), it can be quite a challenge, and there might be compromises to be met. But, don’t let this put you off your plans. In the end, your wedding will always be for you and your sweetheart.
